Hillary Provance-Wheeler, LPC

My name is Hillary. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been studying and working in the fields of Psychology, Counseling, and Mental Health for more than 10 years. I have worked with a wide variety of ages and within various settings to include working at a mental health department, with children and families. I have also worked with people that are incarcerated in both juvenile and adult settings to provide case management and skill building for their re-entry back to the community. My primary focus has been with adults doing individual and group treatment, positive skill building, case management, and crisis intervention work. I also have training in trauma informed care and Heart Centered Hypnotherapy.

Treatment Orientation

My approach to therapy is through a Person Centered modality. I believe that therapy should be collaborative and client driven. I believe that each individual knows their personal needs. Together in therapy, the person can empower themselves with skills to establish new and effective patterns of behaviors.

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy ( CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy ( DBT) to work toward increasing self esteem and skill building to yield solutions.

Hypnotherapy may also be utilized as a tool to untangle the roots of early negative self conclusions. Through this modality, we can begin to see how these roots are contributing to current unwanted behaviors. I approach therapy without bias and judgement. Each person’s story is unique and individualized, therefore treatment planning will be utilized as a means to create insight and to help you move a step closer in authoring your new narrative. While therapy itself asks the client to step into roles of vulnerability and courage, I believe that the role of the therapist is to guide and assist the client in stepping into their own power and reclaiming the parts of themselves which they see as stuck, unworthy, helpless, shameful, and inadequate, through the use of a safe, confidential, and collaborative environment.

I provide individual therapy to adults who may be experiencing:

  • Depression and mood disorders
  • Anxiety, Panic, Worries, Stress
  • Social Anxiety and Isolation
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Grief and Loss
  • Adjustments to life changes
  • Negative Self/Body Image, Gender Dysphoria
  • Behavioral Issues
  • Relational Issues
  • Attention and Impulse Control related Issues

I work with people of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, religions, and abilities; with all people, without judgment.
