Barbara Corkrean, LPC, CADCIII
My name is Barbara and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I began working in the field in 1993, working with homeless youth, then women transitioning out of the criminal justice system. I spent 15+ years working in the corporate world before returning to the field I am passionate about. Since then I’ve worked in an A/D treatment center and in community mental health as a therapist, group facilitator, case manager, community outreach worker, and Director Designee. My work now is primarily as a mental health therapist for adults with a wide variety of challenges, including addiction. I am also a certified heart-centered hypnotherapist.
Treatment Orientations
I believe we all have our own inner wisdom and guidance, and therapy is a process of getting in touch with that. Insight is valuable and yet we often need more, including a compassionate witness and guidance through the change process. I use evidence-based practices that are client-centered and Mind/Body/Spirit oriented. I have been trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which has a strong focus on mindfulness, acceptance and behavioral change. I also use hypnotherapy, focusing on uncovering subconscious patterns that keep us stuck in suffering, aligning with inner wisdom, and making long-lasting behavioral change. I have also been trained in Mindful Self-Compassion, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing and believe these can all greatly assist in the change process.
I welcome all races, all religions, all socio-economic status, all sexual orientations, all gender identities and expressions, all abilities, all ethnicities, all bodies, ALL PEOPLE.
I provide individual therapy to those who may be experiencing:
- Anxiety, panic and chronic worry
- Depression and mood disorders including Bipolar
- OCD
- ADHD
- Grief and loss
