Philosophy and Approach Towards Therapy
Therapy is an individualized process that is different for everyone, and my goal is to provide the type of services that work best for you. My first job as a therapist is to create a safe, open, and supportive environment, and then we work together to help you build the bridge from where you are in life, to where you want to be going. Learning new skills and strategies can be an important part of the work in therapy, but fundamentally my goal is to help you get in touch with your own strengths and resources, as well as those of your community, in order to support you outside of the therapy room.
At all times I work from a trauma-informed and culturally responsive perspective, and strive to create a safe space for people of any gender, ethnicity, sexuality, disability status, or other identity. I have over ten years of experience in the mental health field working with clients of all ages, across a variety of settings. My approach and specialization include evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Behavior-based skills for parents, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Person-Centered and Strengths-Based approaches to therapy. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) techniques for working with trauma and PTSD.
I primarily work with individuals experiencing:
Anxiety, panic attacks, worry, stress
Depression and mood disorders
Self-esteem and negative self-image
Adjustments to life changes
Grief and loss
Trauma and PTSD
ADHD
Relational and family issues
Substance use and addiction
Parenting challenges
Other mental health challenges
